Revolts and Revolutions in Contemporary Iran

“Revolts and Revolutions in Contemporary Iran” is an online workshop organized by İRAM Istanbul starting from September 10, 2020 to December 24, 2020. The workshop instructor is Alireza Hodaei. This workshop aims to familiarize participant with major uprisings, revolts and revolutions that shaped the formation of modern Iran. The workshop will cover a period from 1891, the Tobacco Uprising, until the Islamic Revolution of 1979. Over the period of 14 weeks, this workshop will also provide a solid understanding of the Iranian politics, society, economy and culture that are also relevant today. Participants are expected to prepare for each sessions on weekly basis and actively participate in class discussions.

Participants will be asked to choose one or two topics from the syllabus and write a 2500-3000 words essay about specific incident discussed over the workshop of 14 weeks. These essays can be submitted in English, Farsi or Turkish. Topics need to be consulted with the instructor.

Weekly meetings will be in the format of online sessions hold on every Thursday, 17.00-19.00. Regular participation is required. The language of instruction is English.

Registrations are open from September 1, to September 5, 2020. Application results will be communicated through e-mail on September 8, 2020. Applications should be submitted through the online form.
